“hooky, saucy, punky songwriting in a mood somewhere between Be Your Own Pet and the Donnas, only savvier…. They have mouths on them, yes they do. But their mouths are connected to their hearts and minds, and amped by loud guitars” NPR’s ALL THING CONSIDERED

“an instant garage/power-pop classic that would make everyone from Iggy Pop to the Apples in Stereo to King Tuff proud.” PASTE

“My favourite band right now is Those Darlins…. They're doing something totally out-of-the-box.” Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast in Rolling Stone’s Best of Rock 2011

‘Screws Get Loose – “The hook in this song is so  weird and infectious; it surprises you every single time.”  Cults

Four years have gone by since Jessi Darlin (guitar/ bass), Kelley Darlin (bass/guitar), Nikki Darlin (guitar/ bass), spat in their palms and slapped hands in a three-way promise that would become Those Darlins. Since then, they’ve broken hearts and bones, all the while honing their chops and gaining a lifetime of experiences through endless touring: bros to the bitter end. Screws Get Loose is their second album and first with drummer Linwood Regensburg stepping up as a songwriter. Each song celebrates the highs and bears the scars of the lows they’ve soldiered through together, accentuating the realities of growing up in a rock and roll band. The UK / European version of the album will come with 2 bonus tracks. ‘Prank Call’ and ‘Night Jogger’ previously only available on limited edition 7” in the US.

The band re-enlisted producer Jeff Curtin (Small Black) and headed down to Atlanta, GA to record with engineer Ed Rawls at his Living Room Studio (Black Lips, Jacuzzi Boys).  While the band’s country punk nature is still evident, the Southern roots that shine through are more in line with the dirty South garage rock blasting out of Memphis, Atlanta, and Nashville in recent years. Haunting and hook-laden numbers such as “Hives,” “Tina Said,” and “BUMD” tussle with the confessional weight of other songs, like "Waste Away" and "Let U Down."  Stylistically, the band has created a range of sounds from Spector-esque summery girl pop of “Boy” to the fully-realized stoner jam of “Mystic Mind”.

“Screws echews racing along on speed-fueled riffs for a glossy rockabilly swing. Their jangling shuffle explores the middle ground between the Go-Go’s and Merle Haggard. Yeah, that territory exists. And the chicken there is delicious” Time Out Chicago

Screws Get Loose is a collection of songs that haven’t lost any of the full-throttle charge of their early freewheeling anthems, “Red Light Love” and “Wild One,”. New tracks “Let You Down," “Be Your Bro,” and the album's title track, “Screws Get Loose” display the band’s newfound clarity.

With lyrics fuelled by life lessons of the road, the songs take on bold narratives, strong voices, and full-bodied performances that are a little less naïve but no less vibrant than previous offerings. Maturity and experience combine to open up new dimensions for Those Darlins without compromising the spirit, fun and frivolity that has come to define them.

“Those Darlins come off like the toughest, most dangerous group around. They deliver thrilling song after thrilling song….” AMG

“Those Darlins: A rubbery mess of warped guitar, notes bends around a driving xylophone, and as the song shifts into the verse, the sound is akin to a parallel-universe ’60s girl-group (albeit with snarlier vocals) playing full-on guitar-driven pop.” Nashvile Scene
