Mark 1:1 "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God."
RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS
What kind of week will this be? Many people think of Mondays as "rainy days." They are, after all, the beginning of another work-week, another week of toil and thorns and thistles and sweat, a reminder that we are dust altogether. For some it is the beginning of another week of weakness, disease, and dying.
All of these things are also found in the gospel of Mark, and more! Hunger, sickness, fever, leprosy, paralysis, demons, mental anguish, children dying, families hurting, churches robbed and robbing, innocence suffering, the foe in triumph shouting ...
Yet Mark introduces all of this with a totally different focus: the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Jesus Christ makes all the difference! Yes, we need to pass through many afflictions in this life, fierce storms and rainy days, but the good news is ...
Jesus Christ, the Son of God became the Son of Man, one of us, and triumphed over all! Yes we will see our sin in Mark’s book, and all the trouble that flesh is heir to, but his purpose in all of this will always be to show us our Savior in all His splendor, to proclaim the good news of peace with God and eternal life in His Son!
With Jesus it will be a good news week!
