Native Plant Conservation Campaign News:  Budget cuts proposed by  the Trump Administration could put many critically endangered Hawaiian plant species at risk of extinction.

Hawaii is a hotspot for endangered species. The isolation of the island chain has allowed unique species to evolve there that are found no where else in the world. With trade and tourism, development and invasive non-native species have put more than 350 plants on state and federal endangered species lists.
 
Laukahi (The Hawaii Plant Conservation Network), a NPCC Affiliate, works with scientific organizations and state and federal agencies to keep these species in existence, with tremendous success.
 
Most of the funding for these efforts comes from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service through the Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund. The Fund narrowly escaped major cuts in the recently passed 2018 federal budget, but the Trump administration has proposed eliminating the fund in the 2019 budget altogether.
