John 1:47-49 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, "Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false." "How do you know me?" Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, "I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you." Then Nathanael declared, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel."
JESUS REVEALED AS ONE WHO KNOWS YOU
How important is it to have a Savior who knows us -- not just One who knows our names, but who knows our thoughts and feelings, our desires and fears? If He is going to comfort us and befriend us, He must be well acquainted with us.
When Nathanael approached Jesus, he learned just how well Jesus knew him. The Lord announced an accurate description of Nathanael by saying, "Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false." Jesus knew this because He had "observed" Nathanael before Philip had ever gone and called him. Without even being near him, Jesus had known what was going on in his mind while he sat under a particular fig tree enjoying its shade.
How well does Jesus know you? What do you think? As your risen and ascended Lord, He sees you when you are under your "fig trees" too. In your hours of prayer and in your minutes of meditation He sees you. He sees you also when you are sinning; when your hearts are full of evil which nobody else knows about. There is nothing that escapes His notice. He is aware of every thought, every intention, and every action.
Is that scary? Yes, it would be -- if He had not come to save us from our sins!
