A message from Linda about COVID-19 and social work
Hello --

Today is the last day of Social Work Month 2020. It started out, seemingly, like any other Social Work Month, with upbeat messages congratulating social workers on the important and good work of the profession.

It soon became clear that the coronavirus was spreading around the world at an increasing rate. Social workers (and everyone else) around the world began to change our behavior, engaging in "social distancing" (which I call "physical distancing"), washing our hands more, and being very careful and concerned. Our worlds have changed drastically.

We continued our annual Social Work Month Project, with new articles on the Social Work Month theme (Social Work: Generations Strong) and honoring inspirational social workers throughout the month.

In addition, we found that we needed to address the current and urgent needs of social workers in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic - issues like workplace safety, ethical changes, self-care, and changes in how social workers practice and social work students complete their field placements.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been especially concerned about how we are all affected by the pandemic. (And who isn't affected?)  I am concerned about YOU.

We have published several articles on COVID-19-related topics, with more to come, on The New Social Worker website.

You can find all published articles on this topic at:

New articles will be added to the page as they are published.

I would like to call your attention to a few of the articles in particular:
I hope you find these resources helpful for you, your colleagues, and your students.

I want to remind you that Social Work Month is continuing through the end of today! You are doing a great job and I commend all of you for all you do year round. Thank you to social workers who are on the front lines during this difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic, to those who are busily converting your practice to a new format to continue to meet your community's needs, and to all - whatever your role is at this uncertain time.

Don't forget to take care of YOU!

As I have been saying to everyone, stay physically distant and socially connected. Stay safe and healthy.

Warmly,
