How Can You Help Holden House and Small Businesses During Difficult Times? We have had calls, emails and conversations with our guests on how you can assist our business during these challenging times and it so heartwarming and appreciated. We have been dedicated to supporting a stable work environment for our assistant innkeepers throughout "safer and stay at home" orders because we know how much it means to you as guests and to us, to have well-trained and experienced staff as we transition into welcoming you once again. Even if you can't yet travel due to individual circumstances, you can help us by sharing your past guest experiences on TripAdvisorGoogle, Facebook and Yelp.
This helps us two ways: First, by keeping us at the top of the search engines and second, by informing those looking for accommodations that we provide clean and quality accommodations based on previous guest stays. If you can just take a few minutes via your computer, it will mean a lot to Heather, Tracy, Jenny, Miriam, and us (Sallie and Welling) to help us get back on a strong occupancy foundation.

Recently, all of us received a surprising development across the nation with COVID-19.  So, we wanted to take time to provide information to you on our clean B&B environment.  As a AAA Diamond “Inspected” property, we continue to receive excellent housekeeping ratings, including our award for "Housekeeping Excellence".  (Photo at right: "Bear-ing" with us is one of our Holden House Teddy Bears demonstrating his social distancing practices. Forget to bring your own mask? We have basic fabric masks on hand to purchase for just $1 each)
Here at Holden House 1902 Bed & Breakfast Inn, our innkeeping staff has over 150+ years of combined experience in the hospitality, restaurant and medical fields with an average on-the-job training knowledge of 25+ years each. Our inn first opened its doors in 1986 and is still under the same ownership today of Sallie & Welling Clark, ensuring staying power and meticulous attention to detail.  Here are just some of the ways in which we are continuing our commitment to provide a clean and safe stay, especially during the current public health situation. INN THE KITCHEN - Stay at home, make at home
Breakfast Bread Pudding
Jenny’s Breakfast Bread Pudding
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hr 10 mins (includes the sauce)
Yield: 6 – 8 Persons
1 loaf fresh or stale French bread
6 Eggs
2 cups Milk
½ cup/ 100 g Sugar
1 Tablespoon Apple Pie Spice
1½ teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1/3 cup Raisins
1/3 cup Slivered Almonds (slightly toasted)
1 cup chopped and diced Peaches (fresh or frozen)
2 peeled, cored and chopped Apples
1 stick / 110 g / 4 oz Butter
The Vanilla Sauce
1 stick / 110 g / 4 oz Butter
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 cup / 230 ml Evaporated Milk
1 cup / 200g Sugar
Instructions to make the Bread Pudding
1. Preheat oven to 350 F and spray 13×9 rectangle pan w/vegetable spray. Melt stick of butter in pan and set aside.
2. Tear bread into small (not tiny) pieces, into a large mixing bowl.
3. In a medium sized mixing bowl add milk, eggs, and sugar; mix well.
4. Add vanilla and spice to egg and milk mixture; mix well. Pour egg mix  over bread and mix with clean,  gloved hands.
5. Add apples, peaches, raisins, and almonds; gently mix in with hands. (Tip: lightly dredge these ingredients in flour to help them “float” in the bread pudding)
6. Scoop the above mixture into pan with a slotted spoon and drizzle with the cooled, melted butter.
7. Bake for about 1 hour until golden brown.
To Make The Sauce:
1. In a small saucepan melt butter, add sugar & evaporated milk.
2. Stir constantly and bring to a rolling boil; cook on medium heat for 3-10 minutes, stirring constantly until thickened (mixture scorches easily).
3. When thickened, removed from heat and then add the vanilla extract. (When added over high or constant heat, vanilla evaporates).
4. Serve warm/hot over bread pudding. As this mixture cools, it becomes too thick to pour. I serve in a small microwave safe glass pot and reheat as necessary.
