Be Prepared For The Fire Season
LAST WEEKEND TO PUT OUT FOR VEGETATION COLLECTION
Given
the unprecedented dry period running into summer, Scotland Island Residents
Association (SIRA) and the Scotland Island Rural Fire Brigade
(SIRFB) urge householders to reduce the fuel on their block as
part of readiness for what’s already an early, high risk fire season.
Northern Beaches Council will collect appropriately tied or contained
vegetation this week - the last for the year. Refer to SIRA
website for further info: www.scotlandisland.org.au/environment/vegetation-collection
Here’s your chance to clear gutters, the area around your home and
block etc of fuel such as bracken, dead foliage, deep leaf litter,
built up piles and have it taken away . The area adjacent to and under
your house is most critical. It is recommended to use a holistic
approach, retaining native mid & understorey along with light of
leaf cover for soil & moisture retention, tree health, erosion
mitigation in the event it ever rains again…& habitat for our
wildlife, also struggling in the drought.
