Valley Elementary May Be Moving To Eden

More information will follow in future days, but Weber School district was planning to remodel the oldest section of Valley Elementary this spring at a cost of $4 mil.  Their estimates were way off and the new estimates are nearly triple, at $11 mil.  A new school can be built for $14 mil., they say.

With that in mind, the Weber School Board was set to approve the new construction on a lot in Eden (The Highway and "String Town Road") during a board meeting about three weeks ago.  No public input was sought and Councilman Truett fortunately became aware of the meeting at the last minute.  He was able to convince the board to hold off on the decision until the meeting on January 28th.

Valley School has been a fixture in Huntsville since the late 1800's and has succumbed to fire twice over the last century or so.  There is much history between those walls and on that ground.

Additionally, Huntsville has a library that was built in its present location due to the proximity to the school.  Also, we have a park adjacent to the school that is second to none, complete with fields, playgrounds, restrooms, tennis courts, stage, pavillions, an ice rink and so much more.  You cannot put a price on those intangibles, and the School District could not replace the 85 year old Pine trees for any amount of YOUR money.

The town council feels the correct location for the NEW school is in Huntsville on its present location, and we are desperately trying to convince the School Board of the same.

We will be further formulating our strategy this evening, but will need your support the upcoming days prior to the January 28, 2008 Weber School Board meeting.

Keep in touch!

Snowcrest Talent Show Featuring Male Vocalist of the Year Brenn Hill

Snowcrest Jr. High PTSO is hosting a fundraising dinner and talent show Friday night - Dinner at 6 PM followed by the show at 7 PM.  The show is just $5 and dinner is just $5 extra, but you must RSVP for the dinner - call Snowcrest Junior for details.  It goes to a good cause, so feel free to give more if you are feeling generous.

Nashville recording artist, Brenn Hill, will perform in the intimate Auditorium for Ogden Valley residents.

We are fortunate to have Brenn spend some of his precious time with us on the night of his wife's birthday, and even more fortunate to claim ties to Brenn, as he is a nephew of Longtime Eden resident Ray Hill, who passed away in 1996.  "My uncle Ray was killed in 1996 in a wood-cutting accident. He came to visit me in a dream a while back. We were, of all places, in the mountains west of McCall - a place we'd been a few times before. If only we could be there again...," Brenn recalls.  He writes of that dream in his new hit "Meet Me in McCall."

Now I am not one for Country music, in fact, the Heavier the Metal the better, but this kid can sing and I will be buying his entire CD collection.

To see what I mean, you may listen to his music at: http://brennhill.com/index.html

That’s all for now, have a great week.

Sincerely,

Richard L. Sorensen
