First
Voice: A Pittsburgh International Black Arts Festival - May 20-29,
2010
First
Voice gives African American artists, both inside and outside the
Pittsburgh region, an opportunity to speak through their artistry.
This second annual festival honors and celebrates the creator
and the creative process, and includes music, film, spoken word,
dance, hip-hop and the visual arts. This year, First Voice is the
platform from which the first class of August Wilson Center Fellows
present new works created during their yearlong residencies. Representing
a variety of artistic ventures in an array of disciplines, the inaugural
class of August Wilson Center Fellows includes six of Pittsburgh's
finest artists and performers: Vanessa
German, Anire Mosley, Jasiri X, Chris Ivey, Brett Williams and Greer
Reed-Jones.
