Brethren, we are here this evening to
celebrate the next phase of Freemasonry in Fishguard. Freemasonry has
continually changed and evolved over the last 300 years. Freemasonry in the 21st Century would
be completely unrecognisable to our Brethren from the 18th Century.
Change is something we need to embrace rather than fear and it is in that spirit that we need to approach our proceedings this
evening. Read about the evening here. |
Unlawful Societies Act, 1799
|
By VW Bro Dr Paul Calderwood
|
I want to talk tonight about The Unlawful Societies Act of 1799 and how it affected England Freemasonry in West Wales. But my story does not begin in Wales - nor indeed in - but across the channel in France.
During the
French Revolution of 1789 a republic was declared in place of the
monarchy. The King and his family were arrested and executed. A great many noble families were stripped off their wealth and sent to
their death at the guillotine. Read the full story here and find out how you can help.

20 plus volunteers, mainly from the Mackworth Club for "light blue
freemasons" descended on St David’s Cemetery, bringing along with them
three mini diggers, one dumper truck, one mini dumper truck, two huge skips, and a whole host of
other implements. The purpose of which was to finally rid the cemetery
of many stone bases – of no architectural value whatsoever, that scattered the 10,000 square metre area. Read the whole story here.
