Hello Firstname

Wednesday 19 September

Next Wednesday, we were due to welcome Paul Sanders, unfortunately he won't be able to make it. However, our own John Chamberlin FRPS MFIAP has kindly stepped into the breach at very short notice. John will be presenting his talk entitled "Personal Vision". In it he will explore how and why he photographs the subjects that
he does and will include a variety of images and locations. Many of the images will be new to club members, we should be in for a wonderful evening.

John busy at work!

In each round, two submitted images can be in the 'open' category, the subject and style being the free choice of the entrant. The third image submitted must be in the subject or style category specified for each competition. The Competition subject is "Wood".

Photoshop 7 Lightroom Tutorials
Some eighteen years ago when slides and darkrooms were still at the core of the society, some of us formed the Digital Imaging Group with the intention to learn all we could about Photoshop which was the leader among the image editing software available then. The meetings gradually evolved into having members presenting their work either to seek help from others or just to show off what they were doing. Whereas some of the longstanding and experienced members have raised the profile of BPS in the digital photography some newer members still need to catch up as the skills gap has widened in the recent years. For that reason, I have been considering reintroducing some technical talks in the DI Group meetings while still maintaining the popular presentations. It has been a dilemma for me to find a suitable level to pitch these talks. To make matters more complicated the number of members using mainly Lightroom has risen to roughly about half.
Now that we have the latest Photoshop and Lightroom software available on our PC and also the broadband connection there are new options available for technical talks. Live talks at the club are most interesting but there is a massive, almost overwhelming, resource of free video tutorials on the internet especially on You Tube. A lot of it is either for some commercial gain or just kudos for the presenters. So, I have looked at the stock of tutorials sponsored by Adobe itself and to me they seem to be a very good start for members wishing to brush up on their photo editing skills. At the last meeting of the DI Group I had promised to let members have links to these tutorials so that they can make their own decisions as to what, when and where they wish to watch at their own pace. I have created two web pages with the list of contents and clickable links to these videos, one each for Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC. There are 115 tutorials (13 hours) for Photoshop and 69 tutorials (7 hours) for Lightroom, most of them are five to ten minutes long.
The following Dropbox links will take you to the web pages I have created. They must be downloaded (click on the Download button in top right corner) and saved as files on the desktop or an easily accessible place on your computer, these can then be opened in a web browser. No one needs to subscribe to Dropbox to download these pages. I have spot checked the links but cannot guarantee there are no glitches, please let me know if you find any.
Please see me at the DI meeting if anyone has problems downloading. All that remains is to find a way of coordinating the use of these or other videos by those interested – homework time!

PS: When clicking on the two download links above, you may find that you are presented with a page of gobbledygook. However, in the top right-hand corner of your screen you will see the Download link Ashwin refers to, click it!

ITS NOT PARTICULARLY EASY FINDING "DATES FOR YOUR DIARY", SO I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF MEMBERS COULD LET ME KNOW OF ANY EVENTS, EXHIBITIONS OR PICTURE LOCATIONS THAT THEY THINK WOULD BE OF INTEREST. DATES AND WEB LINKS WOULD HELP.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Barry Mead has won a PSA Gold medal in the Sibiu International Salon in Romania and believe it or not, this was for a non-fiddled image, it was a straight portrait, see below. Needless to say, he also got a clutch of HMs for his creative images.

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
