Hello, Firstname |
|
|
Next Wednesday, 16 March, we welcome Adrian Donoghue to BPS. Adrian is a prolific international exhibitor from Australia (many acceptances in the Bristol Salon as well as in many other exhibitions), he will be "Zooming" his talk live from Melbourne. The talk will be broadcast simultaneously into Unit 13 and into members' homes.
Adrian is an internationally recognised creative photographer based in Melbourne, Australia. He is best known for his creative urban landscape photography, which focuses on transforming ordinary urban scenes into other-worldly photographs, often containing stories of intrigue and human alienation. In doing so, his photographic style blurs the line between pure photographic capture and digital art.

DI Meeting – Monday 14 March
All members of BPS are welcome to join the Digital Group Meeting on Monday. I am pleased say that I already have four presentations with some wonderful images submitted. However, there is still room for another three of four more presentations if you would like to show your images in an informal atmosphere for others to admire or to have constructive comments on them. Last week I ventured out at night to see installations in the Bristol Light Festival dotted around the city centre. It was cancelled last year but, if you missed it this time, I have a few images for you to see on Monday.
I look forward to receiving your images. Please send them to me by 6pm on Sunday, 13 March. Images: JPG format, sRGB colour space, 1600 x 1200 pixels (same as competitions but not strict), prefix filenames with 01, 02, 03 etc. if you wish to show them in that order. Email attachment size - max 20Mb per email as many as necessary.
I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Studio/Portrait Photography - Familiarisation Sessions
STILL A FEW PLACES LEFT - SIGN UP OR LOSE OUT!
Correction to email address
|
In the previous editions, the email address was unfortunately incorrect, the address shown below has now been corrected.
As you may know Mike Martin currently hosts the Photographers with Disabilities group within the Clubrooms on a Monday (11am – 2pm). As he’s already in in town, he’s proposing follow on sessions for BPS members in the afternoons.
These will be:
- Open to all members who are NEW to portrait photography or un-accustomed to working in a studio space.
- Max 12 members - 4 members per session, split into 3 groups (A, B, C)
- Each Group to have one session per month for April & May
- All sessions: Monday 2:30pm – 4.00pm
Session 1 – Lecture / Demo Cover the equipment (lights, triggers, studio lights, modifiers, reflectors, backgrounds, etc), metering, light patterns, etc. Ensure everyone is OK using their own camera to trigger the lights.
Session 2 – Hands on practical shooting Attendees photograph each other in different lighting set ups. One light/two lights/additional lights. Using one light to serve multiple purposes. etc.
Session 3 – Hands on practical shooting Build on session 2 – including how to direct models or each other.
The purpose of the above is to:
- Encourage more people to have a go at portrait photography
- Give you the confidence in the basics so you may consider organising you own hire of the studio space (with Mike supporting you on a 1-2-1 basis if required, first hire would be supervised anyway)
Register Interest
To get involved please drop Mike an email at mike_martin@blueyonder.co.uk with your preference for group (given the dates each group will meet). I have deliberately avoided Bank Holiday Mondays.

Bit of a mixed bag in Round 2 – however we are still in FIRST place with 138 points (our nearest rivals are one 2 points behind us!) – bit tight for comfort.

Another mixed bag with some disappointing scores, totalling 60; but the top club in round 2 only managed 61! And, BPS is still FIRST after two rounds, with 129 against 121 of our nearest rivals.

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue
