11/5/18
I spent the weekend with the Cross Country Teams. It was a lot of fun to be with all the kids and their families. Congratulations to the Boys on their Runner-Up Banner.

Today's first "Free Breakfast" wasn't as big as I expected. I hope the kids take advantage of the offerings. I received a call asking about the nutritional aspects of the breakfast. While I refer those questions to the Food Service Directory, I did tell the parent that the Federal and State governments mandate what can and cannot be offered. The Food Service Director has to chart sodium, protein, grains, etc. and report that to the respective agencies. I think the breakfast offerings are pretty healthy and are certainly more healthy than what I eat.

Students may not be happy but we've noticed a few students bringing backpacks to class. That is a major security issue for us and we immediately send the student back to their lockers. In many cases we are met with, "but I have Tech," or "I have a game tonight" or "I can't get my bag in my locker." I understand the kids are trying to be efficient but I also know there are too many security risks that occur when backpacks are in classrooms. If the kids come home complaining, you'll know why.

Be Nice Student Leaders had their first meeting on Thursday. The students are really excited to be involved in something that is positive and proactive. Mr. Westerlund and Mr. Mull are the advisors. The group is aimed at promoting goodwill, positive mental health and a school culture that works for everybody. I am excited to see where they lead us! If your student would like to be involved, please have them see either me or Mr. Westerlund. We will get them involved!
