Amos 6:3 You put off the evil day and bring near a reign of terror.

DAY OF WRATH AND TRIUMPH

There is a famous 13th century hymn that reads:

Day of wrath, O day of mourning!
See fulfilled the Prophet's warning,
Heaven and earth in ashes burning.

The people of Israel and Judah in the days of Amos, however, were not singing hymns like this. They were not thinking about the Last Day. They carelessly lived their lives of self-indulgence without considering the fact that God would one day call them to account for their sins. "You put off the evil day," the prophet said to them. They didn't concern themselves for a moment about any kind of judgment from God.

We don't want to fall into the same trap. It is important that we recognize our own sins and understand that they are serious in the eyes of God. We dare not think that they are of no concern or that judgment will never come.

By the grace of God, having acknowledged our sins, we do not need to "put off the evil day" the way Israel and Judah did. Rather than put the Day of Judgment out of our minds, we can look forward to it with joy and gladness! Our Lord Jesus Christ has cleansed us by His precious blood so that we can stand boldly on that Great Day!
