Happy Holidays and Thank You for your continued support.

In celebration of the holiday season, we have once again hand-picked more than 100 titles that are, in their own special way, ideal for gift-giving. All 100+ titles are discounted 20% through the month of December. We've included a sampling below so you can get a taste of what we're offering. To view the complete list, please visit our website: www.bookshopwestportal.com

And while you are looking at our new website, you will notice that we have completely upgraded the site to allow you to buy both print books and ebooks online. Want to make sure we have a book in stock before dropping in? Just order it online and select “pick up in store.” The book will be held and waiting for you when you come in. Need to ship books as a gift? We can do that too. The site lists more than a million titles — most of which we can get within a day or so.

And you can now go digital and still support your local store! In partnership with Google, we are offering ebooks for iPads and every reading device except the Kindle. It is easy to get started, (there's a full tutorial on our website), the selection is tremendous, and our prices are competitive. Since ebooks have no geographical boundaries, please pass the word to your friends, no matter where they live, that they can help support your local West Portal shop by purchasing ebooks from us!

We'd also like to remind you that in addition to books, we also stock a wide variety of gifts, including boxed cards, calendars and datebooks, very local West Portal honey (produced by West Portal bees!), jigsaw puzzles, Envirosax shoppers, Slainte handbags (designed and made in San Francisco), Baggallini handbags, wooden toys, kid's science kits, an expanded selection of board games, and much more! You can see some of these on our website, but currently you will see a much larger selection of all our gift items in our shop.

Gift-wrapping is offered at no charge, and we will do our best to help you find books and gifts for those difficult folks on your list. We are happy to special-order books, and can usually get them within a day or two.

Your support of our neighborhood merchants and the many independent-minded businesses throughout San Francisco is critical to the continued character of our city. It is the independent businesses that bring the vitality, creativity and diversity to our community. Locally-owned businesses also bring in more jobs, keep dollars in our community, support local schools and non-profits, and deliver sales tax revenue. Keep San Francisco vibrant by shopping local!

Most importantly, we would like to extend a very warm thank-you and our best wishes for a wonderful holiday season. It is a privilege to serve as your neighborhood bookstore.
