Hello Firstname

Wednesday 15 February
Next Wednesday we have a visit from Jay Charnock FRPS who will be presenting her talk entitled Pictures on Pieces of Paper; yet another tree bites the dust. This will be a loosely structured amble through some prints that Jay has enjoyed producing and promises to be an enjoyable (and amusing) evening. Below is one of the images from Jay's RPS Fellowship panel:

Digital Imaging Group
The next DI meeting on Monday 13 February should be an interesting one with at least three members promising to show some of their images from recent photo trips.
In addition to these three, it would be really great if other members brought along their images to show, either prints of projected images (jpeg on USB flash drives only, please); and as a reward there are guaranteed to be some of Ashwin's, now famous, chocolate biscuits.

Studio Group
The next studio event will be on Tuesday 28 February at 7pm. The model will be Maria O'Shea Cara Wheatley, who is returning by popular request. The Theme will be Victorian Gothic.

If you'd like to come along, please make sure that you sign up using the following link. Numbers are limited to 6 photographers on a first come first served basis, once 6 participants have been reached anyone else who signs up will go on a reserve list in case of either cancellations or will have priority on the next event. The cost will be £15 per photographer payable in cash on the day.

Closing Date
This is advanced warning of an upcoming closing date.
Wednesday 22 February is the closing date for Round 3 of the Projected Image Competition. Entries, as usual, to competitions@bristolphoto.org.uk; there won't be an immediate response to your entry if you get your entry in before the 19 February as Ken Clare is away, but he will respond as soon as he's back.

WCPF DPIC Competition
Last weekend saw a small band of us travel down the M5 to Exeter to support BPS in the annual WCPF DPIC. The competition between the majority of clubs in the WCPF was keenly fought right up to the bell with BPS coming in a very commendable third place behind Dorchester and the F8 Imaging Group. BPS finished up with 204 points against both Dorchester and F8 who had 208 points, with Dorchester actually taking 1st place owing to the higher number of individual awards. Our final score meant that our average score per image was less than a quarter of a point per image less than that of the winners - pretty close!.
Two members of BPS covered themselves in glory with Barry Mead gaining a Silver Medal and a Highly Commended certificate and Richard Kay also gaining a Highly Commended certificate. Scoring on the day was unusually low, which was reflected in the scores of the winning clubs (208 out of 270). Well done to all who provided images. Our entry is shown below, together with the individual scores, it's worth noting that scores of 10 were pretty good on the day and only 1.5 points behind the average score for the winning club.

Bristol Salon
After the best part of a year's planning, the 2017 Bristol Salon has now reached the judging stage, when the 10,000+ images will be whittled own to about 2,500 accepted images. This "whittling down" (more commonly known as judging) will take place at the clubrooms next weekend; 17, 18 and 19 February. BPS members are welcome to come along to watch the judging process and at the same time see some of the best images in the world pass before your very eyes!

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Peace has possibly been restored in the Duncan household, as Greg Duncan has recently been awarded the PSA distinction of MPSA (the M stands for Master). This means that Greg has now caught up with Val, who received hers in 2015. This is a distinction awarded by the PSA for acceptances in PSA recognised intrnational exhibitions, which in the case of the MPSA, is for a minimum of 1,500 acceptances.

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
