Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 18 May

Next Wednesday, 18 May, our speaker will be Martyn Pinches, AFIAP AWPF from Cardiff, who will be presenting his talk From Capture to Salon. Martyn describes his talk:

The evening is drawn from (often bitter) experience of entering club competitions and battles, local and international salons and also compiling a panel of work for consideration by the likes of the RPS. It is not about how to take good photos because I don’t, it is about tactics for choosing your least worst images, presenting and getting them accepted – dare I say understanding the mind of the judge!!
A few images are shown below, and to give you a feel for the evening - the face in feathers was used extensively as a set up in my practical portrait sessions for clubs. I was advised NOT to use it in a panel (I shall explain why during the presentation) even though at the time it was my trademark and went on to be accepted in numerous international salons at home and overseas, winning a number of medals/ribbons/judges' choices in the process. Only one international salon failed to accept it – it was a UK salon (ermmmmm - Bristol!! But I am not bitter about it  "I bet he is! - Ed").
A few examples of Martyn's images, taken from the talk.

Annual Print Competition
The closing date for the Annual Print Competition is Wednesday, 25 May. There is a box for your entries by the stage in Unit 13 and another box in Wex across the way for those unable to attend meetings in person.

The competition will be judged this year by Leigh Preston FRPS, MPAGB, EFIAP, FIPF.

You may submit up to 4 prints and are allowed to use images previously used in the bi-monthly competitions. But please do not use images which you have already submitted for this year’s Annual PDI competition. The full rules are on the BPS website, along with downloadable labels for you to print.
Don’t forget to upload digital copies of your prints. These should be the same size as for the PDI competitions – 1600 x 1200 – but there will be no need to give any other information than your name and the actual title of each image. Here is the upload link:

If you have any questions or problems, please contact the Print Competition Secretary, David Alderson, at printcompetitions@bristolphoto.org.uk

We look forward to seeing your prints!

Trumpet Bowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue

Items For Sale
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!

DO NOT REPLY TO THE NEWSLETTER.
