Wednesday 21 September

Next Wednesday we welcome one of our own members to the stage, namely Mike Martin AWPF EFIAP BPE1*, who will be presenting his talk Dance My Way/Nobody

No, Mike assures me this isn’t an invitation to the ladies, but a talk showing how he started photographing dancers and how he uses them in some of his creative or even surreal creations. There will be lots of before and after images to show how easy it is (!) and to encourage others to have a go.

In the second half Mike will share some of his no-people images illustrating different creative styles applied to a variety of different genres of photography.

And, if you want to see more of Mike’s work, he has an eight page feature in the current issue of Professional ImageMaker magazine, the in-house magazine for members of the SWPP, sharing the influences of Surrealist Artist on his photography. The full magazine is available on-line to members of the SWPP, but his feature is also available on his website, here

There are even more of Mike's images on his website, click here to visit.

Print Competition Round 1 - Closing Date
The closing date for the first print round of the new season is less than two weeks away, Wednesday, 28 September. Prints can be left in the box in Unit 13 as usual or can be left at Wex during shop hours if you are not attending club meetings in person.

Club level entrants may submit a maximum of 3 prints in each round of the competition. Intermediate and Advanced entrants may submit a maximum of 2 images. Across the four rounds these points are accumulated. Trophies are presented in each of the 3 levels (Club, Intermediate, and Advanced) to the holders of the highest number of points at the end of the four rounds. The trophies will be presented at the club AGM.

Prescribed Topic Challenge
For entrants at all levels, one of their 3 or 2 images may be submitted for an optional Prescribed topic challenge in each round. These will be judged together, regardless of the entrant’s level. This entry must be identified by ticking the box on the print label. Points gained for the Prescribed topic will also accrue to the entrant’s score at the appropriate level.
A separate tally of Prescribed scores will be kept, with an award for the winner at the end of the season.

The judge for Round 1 of the print competition will be Ed Cloutman EFIAP, Hon FWPF and the optional Prescribed topic for this round is Wood.

You can download labels for your prints from the Members’ Portal on the website.

As became established practice last year, you are required to supply a digital copy of each print you enter. This should be the same size as for the PDI competitions – 1600 x 1200 – but there will be no need to give any other information than the title and your name.  You don’t need to add your membership number or level of entry.
Please upload the digital copies of your prints by following this link: bristolphoto.org.uk/printsupload

Let’s hope for a great start to the print competition year!  Please contact me at printcompetitions@bristolphoto.org.uk if you have any questions or problems.
