Next week our speaker is Sue Brown FRPS who will be joining us via Zoom with her talk called Time to Reflect.

Sue has been taking photographs for 45 years now and obviously during that time there have been many situations.

During her photographic life Sue has covered, darkroom work, and is now digital. Landscapes, Seascapes, colour and mono, long exposures, and abstracts, her work is very varied.

During the 45 years she has attained 2 Fellowships of the RPS, one in Visual Art and the other, Contemporary/Conceptual. She is still a Member of MAKE Southwest and her work can usually be seen in their Riverside Gallery in Bovey Tracey. Her work has been published in many magazines, and she enjoys her continued membership of the Arena Group of Photographers.

Gents WC
A new flushing system has recently been installed in the downstairs Gents WC. Instead of the system flushing automatically (which was costing us an absolute fortune in water), users will, once they have completed the task in hand, be required to press the button shown circled in the picture below :

This will not result in the flush working immediately, instead the flush will operate after every four or five "visits". Hopefully this will be sufficient to keep the urinal flushed and clean. Talking of "clean", will members (I make no apology for the pun) please try to improve their aim, far too many visits are resulting in unpleasant puddles on the floor.

A huge thank you to BPS member, Dave Gregory, for carrying out this essential work.

DEFINITIONS:
COLOUR
All genres of photography allowed. It should be noted that images in the section will be judged aesthetically and pictorially, and may not do as well as they would in their specialised category where it exists in the same exhibition. Photos that do not fit the monochrome definition should be entered in this section. The use of Generative AI is not allowed.

MONOCHROME
An image is considered to be Monochrome only if it gives the impression of having no colour (i.e. contains only shades of grey which can include pure black and pure white) OR it gives the impression of being a greyscale image that has been toned in one colour across the entire image. (For example, by sepia, red, gold, etc.) A greyscale or multi-coloured image modified or giving the impression of having been modified by partial toning, multi-toning or by the inclusion of spot colouring does not meet the definition of monochrome and shall be classified as a Colour Work. The use of Generative AI is not allowed.

NATURE
Nature means Images where living organisms are the primary subject matter. The story telling value of an Image will normally be weighed more than the pictorial quality. Nature includes: Images taken with subjects in controlled conditions such as zoos, game parks, botanic gardens, aquariums and enclosures where the subjects are dependent on man for food. Scientific bands, tags or collars are permissible. Nature excludes: Images where the subjects are obviously domestic animals or plants. Images where an obviously artistic treatment has been applied. Processing of the captured image, by cropping, exposure adjustment, colour correction, noise minimisation, dodging/burning, HDR, focus stacking and sharpening, is permitted, as is cloning of image defects and minor distractions including overlapping elements. An Image appearing to meet these criteria will be accepted as Nature. The Judges will normally assume that any Image presented to them is eligible. Access to some biological subjects may be restricted. Where that is relevant, then Photographers warrant that they have followed relevant codes of practices and hold any necessary licences.
