Jennings and Ponder have remarkable knowledge of and sensitivity for folk tales. They
combine their talents in poetry, music and theater to create compelling performances that go far beyond conventional storytelling. With their duet of voices, plus a concertina and Celtic harp, they interweave narrative, characters, and music.

Jennings and Ponder tell a story like a verbal pas de deux, each taking different parts, delivered in myriad voices. Jennings’ natural voice is a booming baritone, but that doesn’t mean he can’t sound like a tiny creature. Ponder’s range is impressive, too, from little girl to scritchy crone to stentorian man. The pair’s utter absorption in these roles is a delight to watch; their timing and interplay may seem to come naturally, but their animated performance is thoroughly rehearsed, as well. Folktales are not just kids’ stuff; Jennings and Ponder know that we humans seem to be hardwired to listen to stories.--

Thursday's performance kept the audience on the edge of its collective seat. Unusually high level,
rich entertainment; riveting, macabre, and often very funny,
