The Kierra Keeps Caring Foundation, along with Posh Nail Boutique and C&C Ellise Hair and Nail Boutique, will be hosting its 4th Annual Walk 4 Life. The fundraising walk will be held at the Schenley Park Trails (starting near Anderson Grove) beginning at 10am. In correspondence with the walk, the Kierra Keeps Caring Foundation hosted its 3rd Annual Essay Contest. The contest was open to all local high school seniors. The essay topic was entitled “How has Gang Violence Impacted the Urban Community?” One Grand Prize Winner was chosen from the submitted essays and will be receiving their monetary award, as well as have the opportunity to read their essay at the Celebration Cookout immediately following the fundraiser walk. The Foundation will also award a local high school female with the 1st Annual Kierra’s Most Improved Scholastic Student Award. This award is based solely on school personnel nomination.
The Kierra Keeps Caring Foundation was developed by Carla Gaines-Robinson in remembrance of her daughter Sha’Vaughn Kierra Wallace. On May 22, 2009, at the tender age of 18, Sha’Vaughn innocently became a victim to the senseless act of gang violence.
The mission of the Kierra Keeps Caring Foundation is to reach out to parents and children to promote a positive quality of life for our youth. In developing the foundation, the ultimate goal is to eliminate the prevalence of violent acts against our youth. This goal is attained by way of educating our youth about the essential skills needed to build character, develop communication skills, as well as motivating them to acquire a strong value system.
