ISRAEL: Africans "threaten the social fabric of society".

Yesterday marked a sad day; Israel has now turned on Africans in order to maintain its "Jewish exclusivism". Read below and see PDF attachment.

On Monday, 04 June, a law came into effect allowing Israeli authorities to jail African migrants for up to 3 years. People helping or sheltering African migrants could face prison sentences of between 5 and 15 years. In the videos below Israeli mobs shout racist and misogynist slogans such as "You the spawn of evil...may you all get cancer...you piece of garbage." In another video, an Israeli mob attacks a woman and shouts: "A Sudanese man will rape you...may your daughter be raped, may your mother be raped".

Tragically, the racism and xenophobia displayed in the videos is shared and even encouraged by Israeli politicians including the Israeli Prime Minster, Benjamin Netanyahu, who has said: "If we don't stop their [African immigrants'] entry, the problem that currently stands at 60,000 could grow to 600,000, and that threatens our existence…this phenomenon is very grave and threatens the social fabric of society, our national security and our national identity". Israel's Minister of Interior, Eli Yishai, has said: African immigrants "think the country doesn't belong to us, the white man!"

Then, last week, an Israeli parliamentarian compared Sudanese people to "a cancer in our body". She later "apologized", but not to Africans, instead, to cancer victims and holocaust survivors! "When I compared the migrant worker phenomenon to cancer I was referring to the way the phenomenon had spread...I surely did not intend to hurt either Holocaust survivors or cancer patients."(http://972mag.com/kadima-mk-send-leftists-to-prison-camps-mks-attack-african-refugees/47077/)

On an encouraging note, we salute the young and courageous Jewish woman who this week wrote in South Africa's Mail&Guardian newspaper breaking the deafening silence of her community. In a must read article, she explains how the recent Israeli treatment of Africans is connected to Israel's ongoing treatment of Palestinians: "[In Israel] the biggest crime of the African community, like the Palestinians, is simply that they are not Jewish…as a Jewish South African who grew up under apartheid, this shames me, as it should shame all Jews and all South Africans." It's time for the African Union (AU) to act decisively on Israel, just as how its predecessor, the Organization for African Unity (OAU), promoted international sanctions against Apartheid South Africa!
