** NEWS FROM THE INN **

NOVEMBER 10th -- THE INN WAS FILLED WITH DISTINQUISHED VETERANS

In recognition and thanks fo r their service to our country, we to offered two complimentary rooms and the remainder at half off for war veterans.  The Inn was filled with men and women from all branches of the armed forces.   Representatives from Korea, Viet Nam, WWII and Iraq were present.  What a delightful group of folks!  They shared tales of their service and a fine time was had by all.  We were honored to be among them and look forward to next year’s gathering.  Again, a heartfelt thank you to all who so selflessly serve our country.

THANKSGIVING PIE FEST – A DELECTABLE EVENING

Photo - Gettheumbrella.com

Our 12th Annual Thanksgiving Pie Fest was a truly special evening.  The weather was unseasonably mild, so Markbuilt a small bonfire in the stone bbq.
With it and the help of an upright heater, our guests were able to enjoy pie and fellowship outside on the Inn’s Courtyard Deck.  We and our family baked nearly 30 pies, and many guests brought their own to share, making a total of over 40!   Fruit pies, nut pies, seasonal pies, cream pies, chocolate pies, tortes, you name it, it was there!  The night became extra lively when one of our guests regaled the over 100 guests with festive accordion music.  To top things off, KCTV5 was there and featured Southmoreland’s Pie Fest on the Thanksgiving night news!  A link is attached if you care to share in the visual feast.  If you want in on this fabulous night, make your reservations NOW for next Thanksgiving.  We are already beginning to book up!

Strawberry Hill Museum and Cultural Center
The fascinating history of the building began in 1887, when the private Victorian home was built and considered one of the most outstanding examples of the Queen Anne Style architecture erected in KC, KS.  In 1918, an influenza epidemic raged throughout the US, leaving many children of the local St. John the Baptist Parish without one or both parents, so the Sisters of St. Francis of Christ the King opened an orphanage in the facility. In 1988, The Strawberry Hill Ethnic Cultural Society was formed to promote, sponsor and preserve the ethnic heritage prevalent in Kansas City, Kansas and is housed in what is now the Strawberry Hill Museum.  For Christmas, the museum will have an exhibit of 32+ donated nativity sets on display in the chapel. Featured in the ethnic rooms are Christmas traditional decorations from that particular culture. Volunteers from each nationality work on these displays.  Over 30 rooms are uniquely decorated for Christmas.  While there, visit The Tea Room, open Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00p.m.  The menu is comprised of a wide variety of delicious, authentic Slavic desserts.
