THE "COMING" OF OUR SAVIOR IN PROPHETIC PROMISE
(Excerpts from a Children's Christmas Eve Service)

Narration: Old Testament Prophets like Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Micah and others were given a very special gift by God. They were able to foretell certain events in the world's history that God revealed to them through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Much like the telescope which allows astronomers to look far into the sky, so the Holy Spirit allowed His prophets to see far into the future. The most important historical event they foretold was the birth of a King.

Herald: Hear ye, hear ye! 'Tis writ in the testament of old, as spake by the prophet, Isaiah, that Jesus would be born of a virgin.

Child's Recitation: "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14 ).

Herald: Incline thine ears and hear by whose family this King would come. Truly 'twas from the family of David as ye shall see in the inspired words of Jeremiah.

Child's Recitation: "Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, "That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS" (Jeremiah 23:5-6)

Herald: Indeed, what a blessed gift is this, the gift of God's plan revealed for all to know, for we shall now hear the words of yet another prophet, Micah, who didst name the very city in which Jesus would be born.

Child's Recitation: "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting" (Micah 5:2).
