Thank you, to all of our Supporters, Shoppers, and Owners
2014 has been a remarkable year for SLO Natural Foods, beyond what we had hoped. Thanks to all of you, the Co-op has successfully expanded into our new location, with added staff, more hours including later weekday evenings and Sundays, and more products. This last year also saw a substantial increase in the number of shoppers who chose to become owners and further support our mission to provide organic and local products to our community. We so appreciate you, and will do our best to earn your continued support in the future.
With thanks and gratitude from all of us at SLO Natural Foods,
still the little store with a big heart.

Product Updates at the Co-op
In bulk news this month we want to let you know that we will continue to offer grain sides and salads made fresh at the Co-op from our organic grains and produce. Please check the chill case near the produce department for Tatiana’s delicious creations.
Do you know that SNF has a great selection of bulk teas? Teresa has just added another: Long Life Tea. It's a blend of all organic ingredients: peppermint,
licorice root, cinnamon, chrysanthemum flowers, and honeysuckle flowers. We also have some other new products in the department this month. Triphala is still available in our supplement department but we are now carrying it as a bulk herb as well. Teresa has also brought in two new Chinese herbs; Dong quai is helpful for menstrual and menopausal symptoms, among others. It is available both as a powder and cut and sifted. We also have Fo-Ti which is available thin-sliced and as a powder.
In our health and beauty department Jessica has brought in Nubian Heritage body care products. The Nubian line includes shower gels, lotions, and soaps. We’ve also added the DeVita aloe-based skincare line which includes Hyaluronic Serugel. With 65% pure hyaluronic acid, Serugel plumps skin and minimizes lines and wrinkles. Also back in the store are two products that have been out of stock from the manufacturer, Himalaya. I.E. Balm is a soothing petroleum-free balm that contains turmeric and eucalyptus oil. StressCare is a blend of herbs for energy and adrenal support. These vegetable capsules are gluten-free.
Raymond says that two new pizzas from Daiya are getting a lot of positive comments from customers. The Fire Roasted Vegetable and the Margherita pizzas are both dairy-free, lactose-free, cholesterol-free,
gluten-free, egg free, and soy-free. You’ll find these in the frozen section at the back of the store.
Mark has marked down the delicious Cinderella pumpkins from Branch Mill Organic Farm to $.59/lb., so now is the time to stock up. If you can’t use your pumpkin soon, bake it, cut in chunks or puree, and then freeze to have on hand for warming pumpkin soup. Tatiana suggests adding potatoes, Serrano peppers, and garbanzo beans and Christina thinks kale and turmeric would be a nice addition. Don’t forget pumpkin muffins and scones, or perhaps try a hearty Pumpkin Baked Ziti with Caramelized Onions and Sage Crumb Topping from Veganomicon. Christina will let you know how this one turns out!
Staff Changes at SLO Natural Foods
Zach had a change of plans and will be staying
with us after all. The northwest will wait, and we’re pleased that
he’ll continue here at the Co-op in the grocery department.
The Co-op also welcomes our newest team member, Lonnan. You may have seen him behind the register as well as assisting in other departments. Lonnan has worked at various places in the past; Spencer’s in Morro Bay, Topaz Solar Farm where he installed solar panels, and Virg’s Landing in Morro Bay. He’s pleased to join us at the Co-op where he really enjoys the friendly working environment with our Co-op community.
We also want to offer a belated welcome to Raymond, who joined us back in October. He was employed at Grande Foods in Arroyo Grande for nine years where he worked in all of the store’s departments so he was able to jump right in here at the Co-op.
Cal Poly’s Community Counseling Clinic
Short-term counseling and consultations are available to SLO County residents on a sliding scale from $3-$15 per visit at the Cal Poly Community Counseling Clinic. The counselors are grad students and are overseen by clinically licensed psychologists.
No one will be turned away based on their ability to pay for counseling.
