PRESS CONFERENCE INVITE: Outcome of COSAS & BDS South Africa meeting on COSAS's #BoycottWoolworths Pigs Campaign

Palestinian solidarity and human rights organisation BDS South Africa and the Congress of South African Students (COSAS Western Cape) will hold a special joint press conference tomorrow (Thursday, 06 November) at 13h00 at 6 Spin Street, Cape Town CBD (formerly IDASA House). All members of the media are invited to this joint press conference.

COSAS & a high-level delegation from BDS South Africa met today (Wednesday, 05 November) to discuss amongst other issues the controversial Woolworths Pig Campaign led by COSAS WC as part of their contribution to the growing #BoycottWoolworths campaign. The bi-lateral meeting followed the controversial announcement yesterday (Tuesday 04 November) by COSAS WC to intensify its campaign “against the pigheaded management of Woolworths and their support of Apartheid Israel” which has included the placing of pigs heads in various Woolworths stores across the Western Cape.

Early in August, in line with the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel campaign, a call for the complete boycott of Woolworths until it ends its Israeli trade links was made by BDS South Africa, COSATU, ANC Youth League, MJC and various others including the National Coalition 4 Palestine (a coalition consisting of more than 30 organizations, trade unions and other groups). The #BoycottWoolworths campaign has received wide attention and support but much speculation and controversy surrounds the COSAS Woolworths Pig campaign, media will be briefed on decisions taken on the pigs campaign at the joint press conference.
