Beads Up North! Haydock – 24th April & 31st July
Gordon always puts on a good show and gets them in. His ‘ave-a-go demonstrations of how to turn beads into saleable jewellery are especially popular (see picture).
Visit next year April and October, rather than the usual July when many are on holiday.
Kentish Town, London – 7th May
Out best turnout here so far, with many arriving by tube or taxi, despite free parking nearby weekends.
London is packed with beaders of all kinds: from hobby crafting to upmarket jewellery designs selling for hundreds-of-pounds each.
See us next at Kentish Town on Saturday 24th September. If you’re coming from outside of London, why not combine with a visit around Camdon Town Market or a narrow-boat ride along the Regent’s Cannel – only a mile from Kentish Town.
Shepton Mallet Gem ‘n Bead – 14th-15th May
New owners, Sam & Pete, do a great job organising the Gem ‘n’ Bead Fairs, with more beaders increasingly exhibiting, rather than rock sellers.
These 2-days shows are always a little quiet, but this fair at Bath & West Showground had good attendance on the Saturday.
Wetherby – 22nd May
This show was a little quiet, but we made a holiday out of it by staying an extra day in Bridlington to enjoy the cliffs at Framborough.
Cheshire, Nantwich – 5th June
We always enjoy the Nantwich shows, which are constantly busy after running for many years. We’d love to do the November one too, but need to be in Hong Kong for a month to Mid-December to pack a container of beads to
Norwich.
Kempton Park, London Gem ‘n’ Bead – 6th-7th August
Usually in London we do very well, but this fair was quieter than usual – maybe many beaders were away on holiday. See us next at Kempton Park on 12th-13th November – our last show of the year.
Harrowgate Gem ‘n’ Bead – 13th-14th August
A beautiful venue at the Great Yorkshire Showground, and surprisingly it felt like there were more visitors than at Kempton.
After the show we stayed at Whitley Bay to visit St Mary’s Lighthouse in the morning. Then onto Berwick Upon Tweed, and a few days holiday in Scotland, ready for the Perth Show the following weekend. For more what Mr & Mrs Bead got up to between Harrowgate and Perth, see my latest blog.
Perth – 21st August
The best show for us so far this year! We were so busy; we never had time for a coffee or to eat, until
3pm. However, they don’t like those Scottish notes down South. Pity the show will only be once a year from 2017.
See below for 9 more bead fairs to go, but now we’re getting a van and moving all our beads to the UK at Christmas – in 2017. we’ll be doing a lot more shows.
