August's Memory Verse
Psalm 27:14
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

- 5 THINGS TO DO EVERY DAY -

Acts chapter 2 tells there were certain things that the disciples did every day. The following are five things we should endeavor to do every day.
  • MEDITATE IN THE BIBLE EVERY DAY. (Joshua 1:8-9; Psalm 1:1-3)
    - The morning is the best time to read and meditate in God's Word. Our mind is more alert and we can get spiritual direction for the day ahead.
    - Reading the Bible both morning and evening brings a special blessing. Both Joshua 1 & Psalm 1 give a special promise to those who meditate "day and night."
    - Devotional booklets can be good supplements to Bible reading, but must never be substituted for Bible reading.
  • SPEND TIME IN PRAYER EVERY DAY.
Psalm 5:3, "My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up."
    - Morning is the best time for prayers, although prayer can and should be made throughout the day.
    - It is good to combine my prayer time with my Bible reading time.
    - Prayers should be specific and consistent.
  • BE A WITNESS EVERY DAY. (Acts 1:8)
God has called us to be a faithful and effective witness. Share a tract, give a word of testimony, live a spirit filled life on a daily basis.
  • PERFORM AN ACT OF KINDNESS EVERY DAY.
Look for opportunities to be a help, blessing, or encouragement to someone every day. We live in a very unkind world, and simple, daily acts of kindness really stand out and can verify the reality of our faith in Jesus Christ.
  • EXPRESS GRATITUDE EVERY DAY.
Psalm 68:19, "Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation." There are many things for which we can be grateful for every day. An "attitude of gratitude" will change our frame of mind and can bring a ray of light to even the darkest of days. Be sure to express gratitude to those nearest to us (spouse, parents, children) and certainly to God on a daily basis.
