Tony Anderson fights uphill
conscientious objector battle
"As more troops refuse to deploy, getting conscientious
objector status is an uphill battle"
By Sarah Lazare, Courage to Resist
for Alternet.
October 8, 2008
"I don't feel that it's right to take someone else's life,"
said 19
year-old Tony Anderson, Private in the U.S. Army, in a quiet voice on
the phone. "I felt that if it came down to it, I couldn't kill
someone,
in Iraq or anywhere."
Anderson was speaking while under the line-of-sight supervision of
his commanding officer at Ft. Carson, Colorado where he is stationed.
The young soldier, who refused to deploy to Iraq in July of this year,
is under close restriction by the military and has been threatened with
a prison sentence for refusing to fight. Despite these dire
consequences, Anderson has decided to join the growing ranks of troops
who are openly resisting service in the Iraq War.

Iraq vet Brandon Neely
successfully resists IRR recall
By Courage to Resist. October 8, 2008
When the Army recalled Iraq vet Brandon Neely from his Inactive
Ready Reserve status to active duty, Brandon did not answer the call.
Today he is president of the Houston chapter of Iraq Veterans Against
the War. Brandon declares, “I looked at my dad and told him right
there
I’m not going back.... I never thought in a million years that the
government and the President would send troops into harms way for
nothing.... I got on the Internet and came across the Courage to Resist
website.”
With the help of Courage to Resist, Brandon resisted recall and
recently received an honorable discharge from the IRR.

Message from Robin Long,
prisoner of conscience
By Robin Long. September 21, 2008
I am locked up at The Naval Consolidated Brig at Miramar, just North
of San Diego. It’s quite a change from Nelson, British Columbia,
where
I have called home. I feel as if I have been torn away from my home,
family and friends!
I feel as if I was a pawn, a gift from one regime to another (Harper to
Bush).
For my Canadian friends, and people I don’t know, Stop this!
Fight
this! Don’t let another conscientious objector, war resister, person
of
conscience and morals to be deported.
For my fellow Americans, keep courageously driving on to stop this
war and undo the mess that the last 8 years of Bush has brought to our
great country. I have received many letters of support. We are strong!
We can be an example. We can spread the word and mobilize and protest
the atrocities. It is easy for me to be locked up knowing I stood up for
what is right! This is but a bump in the road. They will never grind
me down! I will only come out stronger! And guess what? I can now
protest from within this country!
Peace, love, light

Courage to Resist helps
"celebrate big oil" at RNC
Courage to Resist activists joined tens of thousands to protest at the
RNC in St. Paul, Minn. last month. Along with our friends at Global
Exchange, Oil Change USA, Rainforest Action Network, Codepink and the
Ronald Reagan Home for the Criminally Insane, we helped host
“rallies” in “support” of Big Oil.
