Posted: 22/01/2013

A bush fire, believed to have started by lightning on Friday afternoon in the Ku-ring-gai National Park in the West Head area, has been contained.

Current Information

The fire is burning within containment lines on West Head Road between the Salvation and Challenger Tracks and on the eastern side of West Head Road between the Towlers Bay Track and Bairne Track.

Fire fighters, support by aircraft, will be undertaking back burning operations today to consolidate and strengthen current containment lines.

There is no threat to properties, however significant amounts of smoke may be visible from the Central Coast, Northern Suburbs, across the Northern Beaches as well as smoke drifting towards west and south west sydney.

See a prediction of the smoke drift for today - Smoke Plume Model

The West Head Peninsula in the Ku-Ring-Gai National Park is closed to visitors. Those wishing to visit the area should monitor the National Parks and Wildlife website for updates - National Parks & Wildlife Service visitor website.

Petrol Tanks Stolen

There has been a spate of thefts of petrol tanks from commuter boats on the island over the last few days. Also there has also been some tampering with electric start boats.
All boat owners should ensure that their fuel tanks are chained so as to deter any would be thieves.
Water Police have been informed of the situation and are on the look out for the culprits.
Any one who thinks they might be able to help with information to catch these people should get in touch with Water Police at Holmeport Marina.

House sitter
Wondering if anyone out there is looking for a house sitter from Feb through to April??

I am a mature age school teacher looking to take some time off in a tranquil environment so I can be closer to my daughter who lives on the northern beaches.  At this time she needs some extra support. She may or may not join me.

I have been teaching in Arnhem Land for the last few years and have my own home in Darwin which is leased out until April.

So…if you feel like discussing things further, please do.
I can be contacted on 0487589244 or deblor57@hotmail.com
