HOT BUTTERED RUM,
A FLEA CIRCUS
& A SIT-DOWN PROTEST
I hear that Winter is the perfect time for storytelling...perfect time for hot-buttered rum I say.
So let's have a glorious combination of the two, courtesy of Word Migrants' Book Salon at Cottons in London, where you can join a group of authors, poets and me for some words of wonder. Cottons is a London institution of Caribbean cuisine, so I'd come hungry for more than just words if I were you!
The Book Salon at Cottons
19.30-22.30, 9 December
£6 or £10 dinner inc.
Cottons Restaurant, 70 Exmouth Market EC1R 4QP
Then I'll be at the Flea Circus, which only runs once a quarter. It's a great variety night with exciting bands, the funniest comedians, the most brilliant poets, and anything else that'll stick if thrown at a stage (their words not mine)!
The Flea Circus
19.30-22.00, 16 December
£5/£3
Candid Arts Centre, 3 Torrens Street, EC1V 1NQ
And tomorrow night (30 November) you'll find me adding an old English protest song or two to an ongoing set of performances at the UCL Students' sit-down protest.
I am sure many of you know the reasons why they are there, but if you want to know more, please see their demands here.

PINS AND NEEDLES
...Speaking of which, a few weeks ago I found myself under a train bridge, rehearsing for the UK Premiere of Pins and Needles, a sharp and witty political musical revue written and performed by members of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union in 1930s New York.
It was so popular that the seamstresses and tailors became Broadway actors, and found themselves starring in a massive hit that ran for years.
We've had 5 Stars from Time Out, and are their Number 1 Critics' Choice above The Almeida, The Young Vic and the National Theatre. Blimey!
But there are only about 50 seats in the house, so do book soon. And stop by to say hello afterwards if you have time.
Pins and Needles, The Cock Tavern Theatre
125 Kilburn High Road, NW6
Runs until 11 December 2010, various times

TALES TO MAKE YOU SHED A TEAR AT 40 WINKS!
The last Bedtime Storynights of 2010 - the storytelling night I curate for David Carter at Stepney hotel 40 Winks - is coming up. We have two incredible storytellers with tales to tug at your heartstrings, so do call Mr Carter if you would like to come along.
This night involves dressing in pyjamas (prizes for the best dressed guest!), drinking Hendrick's Gin cocktails, eating Godiva chocolates, but most of all it is about bringing stunning storytellers to an audience that loves stories.

15 & 16 December: Tales to Make You Shed a Tear
109 Mile End Road, Stepney Green, E1 4UJ

SCREW WORK, LET'S PLAY!
Last but not least, I got a little love for the little story cards I give out, from John Williams, the author of the book with the above title! Click on the link...
Well actually, that is not the last thing I have to say. The last thing I have to say, is thank you for signing up to my mailout, and for your interest and support.
I continue to hope we can use storytelling and the arts of our ancestors to build bridges melt boundaries in the present.
I wish you and your loved ones a new year connecting you to all that you deserve and more than you dare to wish for!
Much love,
RRR
