After a couple of weeks that Derwood will probably want to forget, with scheduled speakers having to cry off at short notice, we return to the published programme with Round 3 of the Print Competition. This round is being judged by David Lingham FRPS. David hails from South Wales and is one of the old school in that he still produces his prints in the darkroom. Visit his website to see his work.

Several members of the Salon team have persuaded me that I should blow our own collective trumpets, as we have received quite a few compliments from entrants (and the judges) regarding the successful running of the Salon. Modesty forbids me to reproduce all these in print, but I feel it may be appropriate to reproduce this extract from an email I received from one of our Australian entrants, Kathryn Willis AFIAF AAPS after I had asked if she had indeed intended to remove all the mono images from her entry:
....I like your salon a lot, and I enter it: 1. For sentimental reasons (it was one of the first salons I ever got 15/15 and an award for one of my images) 2. Because you offer a good number of awards (my main motivation, need awards for Honours levels). 3. Because the catalogue is always nice. BUT, the standard is also very high and images must be exceptional to score well. Don’t feel my monos are worthy at the moment. lol Thanks for the email though – I’m impressed you are looking out for the entrants! Keep up the great work!
JUDGING
Last weekend saw the judging of the Bristol Salon. BPS members were successful with a total of 72 images being accepted from 27 photographers, this included 6 HMs which is pretty good and all goes to show that BPS is up there with the best.
Below are the successful HM images: |

We have gained quite a few new members since I last gave a link to the list that demystifies the world of photographic acronyms. If you aren't sure what MPAGB, EFIAP/s and many more such seemingly random collections of letters mean, just click here to download the list. |
Wednesday Evening Parking
|
Members are reminded that, although we can park almost anywhere on a Wednesday evening, certain areas are out of bounds, these are the areas in front of Units 8 (Design Flooring - if they're open), 10 (Young & Norgate), 11 (Plumb Centre) & 15 (Proper Bread). Please be aware, that although there is plenty of space, this can be greatly reduced if the cars of 60+ members just park any old how, please try to park in orderly rows, that way we can get more cars in.
Please also remember that the space directly in front of the kitchen is reserved for visiting speakers. |

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
