Hello Firstname

Wednesday, 17 September
Next Wednesday we have a return visit by Dave Mason FRPS with his talk entitled "Approaches to Street Photography". Dave says about his evening: "I Shoot People. My talk is based mainly around my various approaches to street photography, a genre of image making that is my passion. I enjoy finding surreal happenings in our every day places be it urban, coastal or rural.
The talk is structured into various sequences; many street, but deviating occasionally into other subject matter to add variety to the evening. My main aim is to share my enjoyment of photography.”
Visit Dave's website (http://www.davemasonimages.com/) to see what makes him tick.

Digital Imaging Group
The monthly meeting of the DI Group is next Monday, 14 September. As usual, all current members are welcome at 7.30pm, especially so if they are clutching prints to show or flash drives full of digital images for projection (don't forget that images should be JPG format on flash drive only). It would help Ashwin a great deal in organising the evening if the images to show are all put in a single folder in your name................ and don't forget, the club might ask a small fortune for a cup of tea, but Ashwin still provides them for free, and there's chocolate biscuits!

There is still time to download the image for this month's "homework". Just follow this link to download it, you can then have a go at enhancing it (making a brief note of how it was done) and bring it to the meeting - if you were paying attention on Wednesday at the talk by Joan Blease, you might like to try adding texture layers just like she did!
If you cannot attend the meeting please email it to Ashwin: (a.chauhan@blueyonder.co.uk).

Print Competition - Round 1
The closing date for Round 1 is just around the corner on 23 September. The judge for this round will be Gordon Jenkins APAGB. If you haven't already picked them up, there are (name & title) labels on the computer desk, so please take a set. Any queries or questions about the competition can be addressed to the Print Competition Secretary, David Alderson, at printcompetitions@bristolphoto.org.uk

Unit 13 & Parking
You'll probably be getting a little peed of with me banging on about parking, but some members still haven't quite got the message. Although we have the luxury of parking space which we never enjoyed at West Mall, space is not infinite and we really do need to make sure that we park in a regimented fashion (just imagine that the parking spaces are marked out like in a proper car park) and as close to the neighbouring car as is comfortable. I would possibly suggest that it doesn't really matter if you block other cars in as we are all (almost without exception) leaving at the same time; you can certainly double park along the face of units 12, 13 and 14.
If you are still unsure as to where you can and cannot park, there is a plan of the estate on the notice board just inside the door to the tea/coffee area.

B&B
One of the biggest expenditures we have is that of providing visiting speakers and judges with a bed for the night. This usually involves putting them up in an hotel and paying for an evening meal & breakfast; this is not unreasonable as some of them have travelled considerable distances to give us their time (usually for nothing); however there are two downsides to this, the first, as already eluded to, is that of cost to the Society and the second is the rather impersonal nature of hotels. Do you think that you could act as "mine host" on the odd occasion, all you would need to do is provide a bed + an evening meal and breakfast. In return you get the satisfaction of having saved the Society some money and made our visitor feel welcome.
If you think you can help, please contact Derwood and let him know, his email address is derwood1004@gmail.com

BS6 & BS9 Magazine
Does anyone have a copy of the September issue of either the BS6 or BS9 magazine that they could let me have? If you do, please email me (newsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk) and I can make arrangements to get it from you. There is an article about the move to Montpelier in both magazines and I'd like copies for the archives.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Every two years the RPS holds the National AV Championships which is a hotly contested event. This was the first year that Greg Duncan entered and his sequence "Why I gave up slide shows" was very well received and was awarded a Commended - one of only 9 awards given out for the whole competition - what a clever little blighter he is!.

If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
