The Headway Coalition for Newaygo County asked that I share the following video on opioid abuse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xpa0VlH32y8&feature=youtu.be
I was honored to be asked to participate.

Seniors are beginning to realize that they only have 6 more months of high school life. We've had a few kids come to that realization over the past couple of weeks. It is interesting to see how students respond to this phase of their lives. Many will be rollercoasters of emotions until they come to terms with their entry into adulthood.

If your student had first lunch, you are welcome to enjoy a laugh at my expense. I was helping a group of students with their chairs and I missed a step and crashed to the ground, landing on both knees. The kids thought it was hilarious. I, on the other hand, did not think it was so funny.

Many people have stopped in and asked about the new marijuana law's impact on schools. I can't give much of an answer except that schools in Colorado seem to be struggling with preventing it from coming into the schools. Our law is quite a bit different than their's so I am hopeful we won't have an issue. We will continue to monitor the situation and listen to the advice of schools in other states that have gone through this change. As almost always is the case, I'll ask for parents' input in these notes if we think we need to recommend a rule change to the School Board.

Next week is our annual fundraiser for Shop With a Cop. It is always a fun battle between the students. It will be an old-fashioned penny war! Pennies and dollars are positive while silver is negative. For example, a 9th grader who has a five dollar bill, a one dollar bill, .55 in silver and .87 in pennies. That student would want to put the paper money and pennies in their 9th-grade class jug while putting the silver in 10th, 11th, or 12th-grade class jugs.

Finally, it is with great pride that I announce our students were able to raise $1000 total for the Hand to Hand food donation program. Over the weekend, an anonymous donor matched what the students brought in two weeks ago.
