Judges 2:10 (ESV) And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.

WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW . . . CAN HAVE ETERNAL CONSEQUENCES

Consequences. There are consequences to not making Christian education a priority. The book of Judges begins with this frightening statement which speaks to the importance of Christian education. The Spirit of God reports that when the generation which entered the Promised Land died, the generation to follow did not know the LORD or the work he had done for Israel. Thus the people of Israel forgot the LORD and turned to other gods.

How could this happen after all that the LORD had done to deliver the Israelites? No doubt there were various factors in each case but these words seem to indicate that their parents fell short of their God-given responsibility (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).

Let us take warning from these words. God help us that we strive daily to teach our children who the LORD God is and what He has done for us to reconcile us to Himself through Jesus Christ. Instead of complaining that the next generation doesn't appreciate their blessings, let's strive to help them see what great things God has done for them.

There are consequences if we don't -- and there are tremendous blessings if, with God's blessing, we do.
