From the Church Guy
So here's what's cool about Clergy Conference.

Once a year, the bishop, priests, and deacons of our diocese get together for a two-day conference.  The bishop talks to us about what is going on around the church, we have educational presentations, we celebrate Eucharist together, and we have great social time.  I love it all.  It's great to be with colleagues who have the same joys and struggles that I do.  I'm grateful to our bishop and diocese for offering this annual event to us.

But the coolest thing is this: as the clergy tell each other stories about our lives and our churches, I always, always, always feel so lucky and happy to be the priest that belongs to St. Mark's in Chenango Bridge.  You are the parish that is just right for me, and it is my honor to be your priest.

Sometimes you have to go away to appreciate home -- just for two days at a Clergy Conference (or once, 13 years ago, for a whole year!).  Just want you to know how much I appreciate you.  St. Mark's is where I wanna be!

November 2 is Pledge Sunday
This is the time of year for us to make our financial commitment to St. Mark's for the coming year.  It's called a "pledge," a promise to give a certain amount spread over the year.  Our pledges enable the Vestry to plan a responsible and faithful budget to make sure St. Mark's is a strong and giving church.

On November 2, we will offer our pledge cards with our prayers at the altar.  We hope you can have your pledge made by that Sunday!

November 2 is also All Souls' Day
In the church year, November 2 is called "All Souls' Day." and is a day for remembering the ones we love who have died.  On that day, Father Mark will pray for the departed and recite their names.  "May the souls of all the departed, through the mercies of God, rest in peace."

 Come to the Table
The November edition of the St. Mark's Table will be held on Tuesday, November 18, at 6:00 p.m.  We begin with a common meal (bring a dish to share, and your own place setting), and then are led in songs by Father Mark with his guitar.  The evening concludes with a simple table Eucharist, and we're on our way at 7:30.  Those who attend regularly find it a wonderful time for pleasant conversation, good food, and fellowship in and with the Lord.  If you haven't tried it, you are missing out!

The Annual Convention of the Diocese of Central New York
Our church is governed by laypersons, bishops, priests and deacons, acting together.  One way this occurs is by the annual convention in November.  You will be represented by the clergy (Mark, Judy, Dorothy) and by delegates elected by the Vestry (Andy Pierce and Brian Kessler).  We receive reports of the many diocesan committees, commissions, activities, and ministries, all in the context of a worshiping community.  This year's convention takes place Friday and Saturday, November 14 and 15, in Liverpool.  We thank Brian and Andy for their time and representation.

Eucharist is Thanksgiving
That's what the word "Eucharist" means.  We celebrate the "Holy Thanksgiving" every Sunday, the day of the Lord's resurrection. And we also celebrate on the morning of Thanksgiving Day -- at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 27.  It's a simple service, only 30 or 40 minutes at the beginning of the day, but it sets the tone of thanksgiving for God's blessings which is the purpose of that national feast day.  Everyone is welcome!

 Church School
Church school continues to be an active place to be, averaging six children in a classroom...which makes for lots of smiling, happy faces.

In October the children worked on a special outreach project.   They made Halloween/Fall magnets to give to the children at the Trinity Feeding Canteen.

In November we will begin working on this year's Christmas pageant, HAY! A Stable Experience, which will be on Sunday, December 21, during  the second service.

Also the children are invited to help make bag lunches for the Canteen on Sunday, November 23.  A sign up sheet for items will be posted on the bulletin board. Children making the lunches, AND FOOD, need to be at the church by 9:15 a.m. so that we can send the lunches with our volunteers working that day.

Check Out What The Book Club's Reviewing
The book group will be reviewing Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn at our November meeting.  This tale is a sharp mix of sharp-edged wit and chilling prose which creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.

Remember, all book club selections are donated to our church library and can be recognized by a golden seal at the bottom of the spine.  Both recent additions, The Glass Castle and Gone Girl will be on our shelves.  Check them out.

 SPRING AHEAD, FALL BACK
Time to change the clocks again!  On Saturday, November 1, remember to turn your clocks back one hour before you go to bed.

AUXILIANS - Who are we?
We are the volunteers at Binghamton General Hospital who are there to assist staff and patients in various roles.  Our organization dates back to the late 1800's.  We provide services such as manning the information desk, running the gift shop, assisting in the cafe', and by supporting families waiting in the surgical lounge.  We have fundraiser sales at least monthly.  These sales provide funds to the hospital for specialized equipment, renovations and scholarships.

We are looking for new members.  You can be an Associate Member with as little as $10 per year.  An associate member provides the financial support but does not need to volunteer.  If you would like to volunteer and/or know someone who has some time to volunteer, we would welcome you or them as an Active Member (same $10 membership fee).  We have openings to work in the gift shop and at the information desk.

Please call the Volunteer office at 607-762-2319 for more information or call me at 607-427-5195.  There are several members of our church who currently volunteer at Binghamton General.

Our organization is worthy of your support.
