I was asked by the Curator and Director of the Maritime Museum in Bermuda if I would go and overhaul their turret clock. This used to have four dials in the tower of the Naval Great Eastern Storehouse. It is a large clock, now residing in a gallery of the Museum.
Although I was working, I had enough time to get a feel for the Island and meet some of its inhabitants, thanks to my friend at the Museum. This talk therefore gives you a flavour of what to expect if you ever visit Bermuda.
What Judges look for
Typically, when one goes around clubs judging, one sees the same problems occurring where members lose marks unnecessarily. However much they are told, they seem to make the same errors. This talk does not go into composition or the artistic nature of the picture. That would be a lecture in itself.
The basis of the talk is a tick list, which can be downloaded from the WPF website, of things to look out for when you are preparing your picture for judging. Things like cropping, backgrounds, simplicity. It is assumed that you are competent to take a sharp picture at the correct exposure, so it is not about technique.
My Life in Cameras
This is a short talk on the cameras I have used since I was given my first camera in about 1952. It ranges from simple box cameras to a 5x4 Linhof Technika and then in the digital age a 2 mega pixel Olympus (which I still use) to a Canon Eos 5DSR
