Volunteer Spotlight: Duncan McLean

Just this year Duncan McLean joined L.A. Works' volunteer movement. The intention to volunteer had been in the back of his mind for years, so when a project crossed his browser this summer, he decided to take the plunge. Searching L.A. Works' webpage was perfect for what Duncan was looking for… although he candidly admits he didn’t know exactly what that was. "But I knew I wanted to test the water." He felt confident that he could find a few hours in his weekend, and now was as good a time to get started as any. MORE>>>

L.A. Works is turning TWENTY!

Since 1991, L.A. Works has mobilized and led volunteers to contribute over a million hours to Los Angeles through unique volunteer programming. This has included: serving meals and preparing emergency food provisions for over 425,000 homeless and low-income individuals; providing educational and enrichment activities for over 65,000 disadvantaged youth; revitalizing schools, parks, and community centers for more than 200,000 volunteer hours; and training more than 900 Angelenos in project and volunteer management. Thank you for helping us reach this point! We look forward to continue our work with you to help build a strong and vibrant LA community!

Project Leader Training
At every L.A. Works managed project, volunteers are greeted by an L.A. Works Project Leader who leads them in meaningful service. Project Leaders are responsible for developing engaging and creative project activities, maintaining a good relationship with their nonprofit partner, communicating with volunteers leading up to the project and leading them on the day-of to maximize impact and ensure that they have a meaningful experience.
