TREE SAVED  'Hats off to the city!' exclaimed nursery owner Diane
Winslow (above) after hearing that the beloved live oak in front of
the nursery is to be saved. For years its fate has hung in the balance,
until this week when Diane was told by a city official that the tree would
live. However work on widening Manchaca Road will continue for many
months into next year.

How to Spatchcock a Turkey: a Revolutionary Approach to
Preparing  your Thanksgiving Dinner:
this Sunday. Food writer/
chef / horticulturalist Mick Vann will give a hands-on demo on this unique

bone, and how to cook it flat over the coals of a barbecue. If you follow
Mick's directions, it is guaranteed (almost!) that your Thanksgiving guests
will be toasting you - the chef - many times during your meal. 2 p.m.
Nov. 8th. Free. Bring water and a chair.

It's Tree Planting Time:  Carol Ann Sayle over at Boggy Creek Farm
describes the current glorious weather as our 'second spring' of the year,
rather than fall. And the weather experts predict a rainy winter
ahead of us - which means it is the right time to consider planting trees.
Please drop by the nursery to see our selection of oaks, bradford pears,
pecans and our many varieties of crepe mytles. Generally our 15 gallon
trees are $125, and 30 gallon trees $239. We will transport and plant
them in your garden for half the cost of the tree.

There have been sightings of nursery owner Chris Winslow at the
nursery over this past week - and we hear that he may even put in an
appearance at Sunset Valley Farmers Market this Saturday am. Please
drop by to say hello. (Chris is recovering from an operation after a fall
at work.)  Happy Gardening Everyone!
