Colossians 1 [Christ] is the image of the invisible God . . . by Him all things were created . . . all things were created through Him and for Him . . . He is the head of the body, the church . . . by Him the Father reconciled all things to Himself . . . having made peace through the blood of His cross.

WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?

In Matthew 16 we find Jesus asking His disciples that very question -- "Who do men say that I the Son of Man am?" There were all kinds of answers, and all of them wrong. Peter gave the correct response: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

It is still the same for us today as it was for Peter. God the Father in heaven has revealed to us who Jesus is. We do not go by the "persuasive words of human wisdom" (1 Corinthians 2) -- our faith is "in the power of God."

With as much as Paul addresses this issue of just who Jesus is and how complete His work of redemption is for the sins of the world, this must have been something which the devil was especially attacking there in Colossae. And the same holds true today.

So, just who is this Jesus Christ in whom we believe? He is not part of God's creation. He is not IN the image of God. He IS the image of God. He is God Himself. He is far above all that is created. He was involved in the creating! There is nothing above Him, no matter what. He it is who has the position as the head of the Church, the body of all believers. In Him ALL things have been reconciled. There isn't anyone who isn't covered.

What is God saying to you here? We really need to hear Paul make it so plain just who our Savior is. Has your life ever seemed out of control? Have you ever looked at the goings on in our world and wondered how it could possibly get worse? But is there anything that is above the control of our Savior God? NOT A THING! We are completely safe in Him, everything is taken care of, we are fully forgiven, redeemed, and reconciled.
