Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 14 July

Next week, 14 July, we welcome Simon Caplan LRPS, who will be presenting his talk: Out of the Dark.

In this talk Simon introduces you to the art of the still life - and still life photography in particular.

He takes the audience through a brief history of both still life painting and photography - and how classic art influences modern photography. The presentation covers current masters of still life photography; the art of composition and lighting and other techniques and pitfalls.

As a taster, some of Simon's work can be seen on his website :https://www.simoncaplanphotography.co.uk/gallery.html
Below are some of Simon's still life images, taken from his website

DI Group - Monday 12 July
Next Monday, 12 July, it is time for the monthly Digital Group meeting. It seems to have come around very quickly. Every BPS member is invited to join in, especially if you have images to show. If you would like to have comments from others on your work or would just like to show off what you have been doing please send your images to me for presentation at the DI meeting in an informal atmosphere. If you have been experimenting with new techniques with your camera or processing your images you may want to share some of them. If you just want to watch you are very welcome too.

Please send your images to me by Sunday 11 July, 6 pm.  Images: JPG format, sRGB colour space, 1600 x 1200 pixels (same as competitions but not strict), prefix filenames with 01, 02, 03 etc. if you wish to show them in that order. Email attachment size - max 20Mb per email.

I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Downloads
NEW - Download issue 285 of PAGB eNews here. This includes the results of the Inter-Federation Competition.

Issue 285 Extra contains details of the Masters of Print Salon des Refusés. These are prints that very nearly made it, with only 60 prints accepted, selection was tough and these prints were only rejected "because there were already sufficient pictures of that style". Two of the pictures are by BPS members, Jeff Hargreaves and Mike Martin. Click here to download.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Well done to Anita Fullerton, who has had a successful couple of weeks with an HM in the Focal Point Circuit - Portugal Salon with her image Pip, The Gentleman and a FIAP Gold Medal Award for her image New Versus Old Technology in the Queensland Circuit - Gold Coast Salon. She also gained her CPAGB distinction, no mean feat.

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Make Money For BPS Every Time You Shop On Amazon!
Now we're all still in lockdown, the thought of on-line shopping must be looming large in many members' minds. It's worth remembering that if you so wish, each and every one of you can support BPS with every purchase you make on Amazon by using Amazon Smile. Click on the link below – then it’s self-explanatory.
Shopping using Smile is no different to your normal Amazon shopping and costs you nothing, it's just that you need to tell it that you wish to use Smile and then we get some pennies!

For Sale
Graham Reeves has kindly offered his Logan 550-1 Mat Cutter for sale, this is hardly used, and is therefore in very good condition. Graham has said that all proceeds should go to BPS funds, so if you are interested in buying this and would like to make an offer, please email me at bpsnewsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk and I will put it to Graham. This is a quality item, so sensible bids only please.

Below is a copy of the best priced ad that I could find on the web. To see more about the cutter, please follow this link

If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).
