GEORGE O. JACKSON, JR.
"PROPITIATORY FESTIVALS OF CENTRAL GUERRERO"
Image Presentation & Talk
Wednesday, April 7
6:00-8:00 PM
Harry Ransom Center
UT Austin

George O. Jackson, Jr. has been described as "a walking encyclopedia of indigenous folk customs of Mexico." His photographs have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution, and much of his work documenting Mexico's indigenous cultures is held at the University of Texas at Austin's Benson Latin American Collection.  In 2006 he gave AFFA a first-rate presentation about "The Painted Body."

This time his presentation will focus on rain petitions in Acatlan, Cerro Azul, Zitlala, La Esperanza, Santa Catarina, Ahuecuotzingo, Mochitlan and Coaxtlahuacan, and he promises "LOTS of costumes, masks, rituals, and dances!"

The event co-sponsored by Austin Friends of Folk Art and the Mexican Center at the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies.

There will be a reception in the lobby from 6:00-6:30. Admission is free, and parking is available nearby for a fee in the Dobie Mall Parking Garage.
