NFP TABLES PALESTINE MOTION IN PARLIAMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA ON TUESDAY 21 AUGUST

MEDIA STATEMENT BY HON AHMED MUNZOOR SHAIK EMAM, MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT – NATIONAL FREEDOM PARTY

Prior to the recent Parliamentary recess the National Freedom Party (NFP) announced that it will be submitting a motion and resolution to be voted on by the National Assembly, the wording of our motion being the exact wording of the resolution from the ANC’s 54th National Conference. Our resolution which we are tabling tomorrow (21 August) at the National Assembly reads:

“To give practical support to the oppressed people of Palestine we resolve on an immediate and unconditional downgrade of the SA embassy in Israel to a liaison office.”

It is unfortunate that the popular and widely supported decision to immediately and unconditionally downgrade the SA embassy in Israel to a liaison office has not been implemented.

It would appear that Israel and the Israeli lobbyists have meddled with DIRCO officials and government has not acted.

It is therefore necessary for the NFP to lend its support and apply pressure so as to shake government into action! We have taken the initiative as we pledged to do, to demand real action!

The motion will be tabled tomorrow (21 August 2018) at the sitting of the National Assembly (Parliament of the Republic of South Africa)
