Day One (and Two) – On the ground in Dubai!

The trip got off to a smooth start, all except for a brief moment at DIA when we weren’t sure Holly was going with us.  UAL personnel insisted her ticket had been printed, but I was certain that only 13 sets of tickets (Holly was #14) came out of the ticket kiosk.  Turns out we were both correct as her printed ticket had gotten stuck in the output slot of the ticket dispenser and thanks to solid detective work by Weston, Holly was able to join us for the trip.

The flights to Washington DC and Dubai were the best kind – uneventful and (reasonably) on time.  The flight to Dubai was a little on the chilly side (penguins would have been right at home) which made sleep difficult, but most of the team reported some solid nap time somewhere during the 13-hour flight.  Which will come in handy in the next 24 hours as we’ll be up most of the night before our 4:15am departure for Kabul, the final leg of the trip.

I don’t think any of us can sleep tonight anyway – we are all eager to arrive in Kabul tomorrow and begin our week in Afghanistan.

Thank you all for your prayers, encouragement, and support.  You are all truly here with us!
