Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 30 October

On Wednesday 30 October we welcome Paul Berriff OBE who will be presenting his talk entitled Life Behind the Camera.
Paul is an award-winning fine art photographer and documentary film maker who has been behind the cameras for over 50 years. Paul started his photographic career in Leeds on the Yorkshire Evening Post when he was 16 years old. He has photographed legendary bands such as The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and solo artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Roy Orbison and Marianne Faithfull.
Paul is also a television documentary film maker and has been presented with over 18 international awards for his work including two BAFTAs for Best Documentary and a BAFTA nomination for Best Cinematography. Paul was recently presented with the Guild of Television Cameraman’s prestigious award for outstanding work in TV cinematography.  Paul has escaped death four times whilst in pursuit of the perfect image. He was blown off a volcano in Central America during an eruption, escaped from a major helicopter crash in the Scottish mountains, jumped from a sinking ship in the North Sea and was knocked unconscious and survived as both the Twin Towers in New York fell on him while filming the 9/11 attacks.  He is the only Brit to survive the collapse of both towers. Paul was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours.
Paul’s Beatles and rock legends photographs have been exhibited around the world including Carnegie Hall (New York), San Francisco Museum of Science, San Francisco Art Exchange, Memphis Museum of Pop Music, Prague Museum of Music, Menier Gallery (London), Harvey Nichols (Dubai), Salts Mill, Saltaire (Yorkshire) - alongside David Hockney’s art and Wensleydale Galleries, Leyburn.Paul prefers monochrome images. He still uses his Rolleiflex medium format camera as well as his Nikon F 35mm and Speed Graphic  5 x 4 cameras which he used to photograph The Beatles and other rock legends in the 60s. Paul particular likes the grain produced by film which he says gives the subject a more appealing and natural look. His favourite subjects are the people of Yorkshire and its rich mix of fabulous landscapes both in the country and the coast. Paul Berriff’s 50 Years Behind the Camera talk is an audio-visual presentation of Paul’s life and times with both his still and movie cameras.  It features his photographic work with legendary pop groups and amazing stories and adventures while filming TV documentaries from James Bond to NASA astronauts. Paul has cheated death four times and tells the gripping stories of his amazing escapes including the dramatic story of that tragic day in New York when both the Twin Towers collapsed on top of him.

Lacock Abbey Until 3 November Photography exhibition at the Fox Talbot Museum by Maggie Taylor
Artist Maggie Taylor returns to Lacock this summer with Through the Looking Glass. Using her point and click camera, flatbed scanners and Photoshop, she creates digital art that transports viewers into dreamlike worlds. Inspired in part by Lewis Carroll's classic Alice in Wonderland, Taylor’s use of antique nineteenth-century photographic sources including anonymous daguerreotypes and tintypes imbues her imagery with a Victorian character appropriate to the setting of Carroll’s narrative. Discover links to Lacock Abbey through these images, on display in our Photographic gallery - free admission to the exhibition. For more details of the exhibition and Lacock, follow this link. (I've seen this exhibition and she almost manages to "out-Barry" Barry! - Ed)

From potato substituted for ice cream, to painted raw turkeys, images of food have been tampered with throughout the industry for years. These nocturnal creatures are a great way to learn macro-wildlife photography.
