Farm Fresh News - June 2018
Kids To The Country at The Farm Swimming Hole
Dear friends, June and July are the months for Kids To The Country, a program that offers at-risk urban kids the opportunity to take a break from troubled situations and develop a connection to nature through hands-on experience.
Over the course of their time here, the kids get to swim, ride bikes, horses, do arts and crafts, and a lot more. But there is something else happening that's even more important. Kids from the city and kids from the country, kids of different colors, form a bond.
If we are going to make any headway in combatting the entrenched raism in this country, one solution is to put kids together, and let their hearts take over.
If you really want to see change in this world, I urge you to lend support to this program, now in its 35th year. Because the counselors and junior counselors serve as volunteers, the cost, only $350 per child, is incredibly low. Consider sponsoring a child, or simply giving what you can toward the GoFundMe Campaign to sponsor 5 children. Kids to the Country makes a difference in lives that lasts.

Dance Calendar
No doubt by now you have about the music and Dances of Universal Peace events that have taken place over the last month and how much fun everyone is having together. If your soul could use a lift, or you’re just curious, you are welcome to come to any of our schedule gatherings.

7-9 PM A beautiful, vaulted ceiling chapel, located downtown. Let me know if you would like to join us. Sunday June 24 The Farm Community Center, 152 Schoolhouse Rd., Summertown, TN 38483
2-5 pm. This date is being celebrated around the world as the 50th anniversary of the Dances of Universal Peace, which originated in San Francisco, 1968, during the Summer of Love. We’ll be joined by some guests from Nashville, a group called Soul Crafters, who meet at a different location in Tennessee each month to meditate in nature. They will take in our beautiful land in the morning, and then come up to the Community Center to give poetic offerings called Theater of the Soul, and to sing, chant, and dance with us in the afternoon.
Our regular Dance and Kirtan Schedule through June at 552 Farm Road, the doublewide behind the silos.

November 2-4. 2018 Dance Weekend, Gratitude and Grace: My Life is My Prayer
I am so happy to welcome Sky Roshay as our guest Dance leader for our November .
Sky first discovered the Dances in 1993, and since 1999 has been co-leading dances and dance camps throughout the western U.S., and at an annual gathering in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. For many years Sky did work for Dances of Universal Peace North America and DUP International, often as a liaison for new dance leaders.
It was in Mexico where my wife Deborah and I met Sky. We were immediately taken with her humble strength, welcoming smile, purity of intention, and her dedication to the Dances.
Each morning, Sky would lead a discussion she called the “Deepening of the Dances,” in which she shared insights and helped provide an understanding of how the energy we co-create and experience has the power to open your heart and transform your life.
An amazing blend of fire and good-natured fun, she makes it easy for people to feel comfortable, a gentle guide into the dance of connection with each other and the Oneness we all share.
I was honored when she agreed to be my Dance mentor and my entrusted friend.
As we enter into this time of shorter days and long dark nights, it is natural for us to turn toward introspection, as we give thanks for the gifts we have received, the challenges we face to make us grow, and the Love that carries us through. Together we dance, our lives as our prayer.

There is still time to register for the Organic Gardening Intensive. With this 4 day intensive, you’ll get the hands-on experience and gain the confidence to get started on your own.
We begin on Thursday evening with dinner, followed by a presentation overview on gardening for food production, showing how you can produce all the fruits, vegetables and protein you need to feed yourself and your family.
Friday morning we’ll gather in the garden at 6 AM and beat the heat. At 9 AM we’ll break for showers and breakfast. Next, we’ll visit the local Amish community other Permaculture homesteads.
Saturday we’ll visit gardens around The Farm, and stop by The Farm Market Day under the dome. We'll spend the afternoon harvesting honey!
I have bee suits for everyone who attends the Gardening Intensive! Click here to learn more!

Speaking Engagements
At the same time, I recognize that I can reach a lot more people if I go outside the community. One of my goals is to speak at colleges and universities where I can talk to young people about Right Livelihood, Service, and Finding Sanity in an Insane World. This is a time when people need to hear an uplifting message of hope.
If you are part of an organization, event, or school (or you just want to learn more about my life's work), I invite you to visit my web site www.douglasstevenson.com, where you'll find information on my lecture topics and how to bring me to speak in your area.
