John 16:14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

HE WILL GLORIFY ME

How does Jesus the Savior become Jesus, your Savior?

New York City has its own marvelous water system. If you travel upstate, you will find large reservoirs, like lakes, and when you ask, "What are these?" you will be told, "These are the water supplies for New York City." "But," you say, "the city is far away, over a hundred miles. How can this water be of any value to the people?" You are told, "The water is brought down to the city by means of aqueducts, and eventually led to each individual faucet."

Through the Gospel in the Word, as well through the Gospel in Baptism and the Lord's Supper, the Holy Spirit channels God's forgiving grace to the sinner's heart. By this work of the Holy Spirit, Jesus the Savior became your personal Savior.

We hear a great deal today about those who claim to have the "Spirit" and claim that His presence is proven by great displays of religious zeal, tongue-speaking, and even miracles. At the time of the Reformation, these people were called "Enthusiasts." Their zeal can be very confusing. It helps to keep in mind the chief function of the Holy Ghost, which is to lead men to salvation in Christ. Beware of those who are so "enthused" about the Spirit that Christ our Savior has to move to the back of the bus. Jesus says, "He [the Holy Spirit] will glorify Me" (John 16:14).
