Wine Tasting
Sunday April 1
at the home of Nathalie and Julian
These
notes are for those tasters who couldn’t make it to the Sunday
wine tasting.
Last
Sunday afternoon, yes, April Fool’s day, some 35 offshore, discerning
wine tasters gathered at the Muir’s home to look at a selection of 14
whites and reds (see list HERE).
The range was very good – from fresh young fruit driven to oaky whites,
and good quaffing through to big well balanced reds where the tannin
lingered on.
During serious discussion some conclusions and recommendations were:-
- Showing good fruit, fresh on the palate and
excellent value for money was the Wongaburra 2009 Chenin Blanc
- The
Pepperton Estate 2011 Pinot Grigio – for those seeking a dry ‘greenish’
finish (which should be evident in wines made from this grape), this
wine is a good choice – and excellent value as well!
- For
those who like a bit of oak in their whites, the Hunter Valley
Catherine Vale Chardonnay 2011 showed good flavour, an ‘oaky’ grip and
a clean finish (not your buttery HV character at all) – at a very good
price too
- The reds were generally good to very
good.
The Wirrabara Forest 2009 Shiraz , which we’ve enjoyed at a recent
tasting, is a top quaffing wine and terrific value at $7.25
- Another
outstanding red is the much loved Ballast Stone 2009 McLaren Vale
Shiraz, both in quality (big, rounded, with a soft dry finish), and
value for money
Remember to get your orders in the mail by WED 4th APRIL - YES,
THIS WEDNESDAY, to Jim Sutton (details top of the Order Form)
or direct email.
And remember
that the next tasting is not ‘til June/July’ish.
Any questions – ring Greg (9979 5228), George (9979
9141) or Julian (9999 4449).
Our thanks to Nathalie and Julian for their generous hospitality.
