Divided plates help us properly separate and portion the foods we consume. The Biblical word "sanctify" means "set apart," "separate," or "make holy." When something is sanctified, it has been set aside for a special purpose. That's what God means when He states how:

SEX IS SANCTIFIED *

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

If my life were a divided plate, would I honestly be able to say that God was the largest portion? Maybe you feel that way about sex. Maybe when you hear God's plan for sexuality, you realize all the mistakes you've made in not following God's instructions about sex or any other part of life. God says, "You shall be holy as I am holy." Sex is sanctified in that God has set is apart for a special purpose for a husband and wife in marriage. Our sexual sins really should be the end, not only of the gift of sex that God gives, but also of our very lives. Hebrews 13:4 says, "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral."

But there is good news. You need not fear that your sexual sins have ruined you. You need not fear that God won't love you. You need not fear that you won't be able to have a good marriage or a live a clean life. Jesus says do not be afraid, "Your sins are forgiven ... Go, and sin no more" (John 8:11). That's why the Apostle Paul says "Flee sexual immorality" (that is, what is immoral in God's eyes), because Jesus died to forgive you. "For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6:20).
