No Service?  Whaddaya mean "No Service"?!?
Here I am, working on this newsletter, and I pick up my cell phone to call my wife.  There are plenty of minutes left in my account, the bill is all paid up, and the battery is not dead.  But it says "No Service."
Must be a technical glitch in the cell phone company.  These things happen
now and again with our technologies (and sometimes cause us to shout angrily at our inanimate electronic devices.)
But isn't it great that you never get a "No Service" message from God?  God's lines are always open, and our call is always welcome.  Here's a line from one of our Sunday prayers: "Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve..." (see #22 on p. 234 of the Prayer Book)
I'm grateful that we never get a "No Service" message from God!
And because it is my honor to be your priest, you are always in my prayers.

Support Our Confirmands
"Confirmand" is the Prayer Book word for people being confirmed by the bishop.  Confirmation is the rite in which people make an adult commitment to Christian faith ("confirming" the decision made, usually by parents, to have them baptized when little).
This year, the Binghamton District Confirmation service will be held at St. Paul's in Endicott on Sunday, May 31 at 3:00 p.m.  The organist at St. Paul's is Paula Giroux, and Father Mark will be playing trumpet with the hymns under her direction.
St. Mark's will be presenting these four persons to be confirmed by Bishop Adams: Jack Abbey, Bethany Bertram, Elizabeth Jacobs, and Grace Mellen.
Let's have lots of people from St. Mark's attend this service to support them!
Come to the May St. Mark's Table
On the third Tuesday of May, the 19th, you are invited to the Table at 6:00 p.m. for a potluck meal (bring a dish to pass and your own place setting).  After we enjoy food and fellowship together, the Rector leads us in song, and the evening concludes with a simple Eucharist around the table.  We are finished by 7:30 after a nice evening together.
This is a great way to spend a little extra time with people from the church, and maybe have some interaction between attenders of the 8:00 service and those of the 10:00 service.
Wear Red on May 24!
Sunday, May 24, is called "The Feast of Pentecost," a celebration of the gift Jesus gave his followers, the gift of his Spirit, his presence, in their lives.  The color of the day is red, and it's always fun when members of the congregation wear red as well.  You'll look good!
 Youth Group Overnight May 29
Our spring overnight in the church is set for Friday night, May 29.  It's always a good time for our youth in grades 7 - 12!  We'll begin at 7:00 and end at 8:30 Saturday morning.  Bring a snack to share, sleeping bag and pillow, and toiletries.
By the way, save the date for our summer Ramp It Up project.  St. Mark's Youth Group will be building a wheelchair ramp somewhere in Broome County on Saturday, August 29.  St. Mark's Youth Group rocks!
 Youth Sunday, May 10
On Sunday, May 10, Mother's Day, the youth of St. Mark's will take over the 10:00 service!  The children will service as ushers, readers, and psalmist.  They will also be presenting a short skit during Kid Stuff.  You won't want to miss this special Sunday.  See you all there!
 Book Club
Our selection this month is THE GOLDFINCH by Donna Tart, winner of last year's Pulitzer Prize.  A huge narrative of striking energy and power, it is an old-fashioned tale of loss and obsession, survival, and the ruthless machinations of fate.  Deserving of the award on every level.
